I have clicked on the url (mydomain.com:4_digit_number) provided in my Hosting Order Status email for the website's control panel Plesk but no luck. I tried in both IE7 and Opera but in both cases receive a Network Error page returned. I am on a fast connection so don't believe it's a result of the connection timing out.

Now I have installed three different plugins, one at a time. In each case, the plugin appeared under "currently active plugins." However, it didn't actually work, and the number on the upper right over the word plugins remained at 2. How might I fix this, and get a plugin to work?

Hi. I'm trying out the plug-in Wassup. In order to finish configuring it, I have to rename a temp files folder and am stumped about how I do that. I think I need to do something the php.ini file. Can anyone give me a tip on how to rename the file?

The message from the plug-in follows....

Temporary files location folder

Current "Save path" directory for storing temporary files used to track visitor activity:

/var/lib/php/session

Use absolute directory paths only. This value is usually "/tmp".
System default for session.save_path="/var/lib/php/session" from php.ini or from web server configuration.
WARNING! Directory does not exist or is not writable. Please enter a different path above or change "session.save_path" in "php.ini" to point to a valid, writable folder.

Hi. I'm new to WP and am stumbling on how to edit my header to show limited links. Basically, what I want to do from the main page is to only show header links only for pages that have no parent pages. Then when I click into one of those main page links, then I want to show the children pages.

For example, for what I have uploaded to intuiosity.com so far, I only want to show About and Overview pages in the header link. However, if I publish other (children) pages, then they show up in the header links.

Any tips would be appreciated.

I brought existing content over from a blogware a while back. Now I'm almost ready to go live, but I need to bring over a handful of additional comments that have been made since I exported content. Is there a way to do this?

I don't want to reexport all content as I've made too many changes to it on the wordpress platform.

In addition, the comments that did come over with the original migration now show up as 'anonymous'. Is there anything I can do to fix that? There aren't many, and I'd be ok with editing manually if I need to. Thanks.

Hi Folks, I am migrating my blogware blog hosted at Blog Harbor to Press Harbor. I am hoping for some feedback and suggestion the best theme or way to create simple and effective landing page for our domain http://www.neighborsforneighbors.org. We have a development site at http://neighborsforneighbors.wordpress.com where you can get and idea of what we are trying to accomplish.

What we want is for people to 1) Go to http://jp.neighborsforneighbors.org, 2) go to http://jamaicaplainwatch.ning.com, and 3) Read our coporate blog that will reside within a page on http://www.neighborsforneighbors.org.

The theme we are using now is called "Ocean Mist". What I know we need is a theme that allows for pages but does not have a "Home" page by default - or - a way to make the "home" page the landing page that we can customize.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I guessing that there might be better ways to accomplish what we are looking for and I certainly am open to that.

Anyway, it use to bring a pop-up window where you could select digg, reddit and a bunch of other destinations. Today I noticed the popup no longer works, it takes me to the home site instead. The closest info I found was this: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/share-this/faq/ but it does not really describe my situation, being on 2.3. Wonder if you can help on this...

What is the best way of embedding video to our pressharbor blogs?

I was looking at this plugin http://an-archos.com/anarchy-media-player/#install
but don't know how to get it into wp-content/plugins .

Can anyone advise on possible solutions?

Thanks,
PressHarbor Support on "How on earth do I access my FTP?"

A customer wrote to us tonight:

My question to you is how on earth do I access my FTP? I want to change my theme, but I have tried different topics about wordpress and none of them have helped

No problem. First, you would the username and password from the email we sent called "Hosting Order Status" (not your WordPress admin login!!!) and connect to your domain name (if your domain is example.com then configure your FTP client to connect to http://www.example.com) and you should be able view your file system with FTP.

Never used FTP? You will need an FTP software like SmartFTP (see http://www.smartftp.com). See this video tutorial on configuring SmartFTP, or these tutorials on configuring WS_FTP, CuteFTP, or FileZilla.

Once you have been able to login in to your site via ftp, you'll probably see a set of directories that look like this:

anon_ftp

blog

cgi-bin

conf

error_docs

etc

httpdocs

httpsdocs

pd

private

statistics

subdomains

web_users

Open httpdocs, then inside there you will see another directory called wordpress. Open that, and look for wp-content. Inside there you will see a few folders, the most important are themes and plugins.

These are where you would install your custom themes and plugins of course. We've installed some by default, don't bother trying to customize them because we maintain the pre-installed themes and plugins and will update them with the latest versions periodically, which will wipe out any changes you make to them.

But you can add your own themes and plugins:

How do I upload new Plugins to my WordPress blog?

I am having a problem that just started today. Everything was running perfectly the last time I edited my site.

I tried to upload additional images to a post. Wordpress did not offer me the choice to have them as thumbnails. The only options I was given were 'full size' and 'title'.

Thanks,
PressHarbor Support on "Why don't my template changes show up immediately on my site?"

We received the following note this morning:

One thing that I find a bit odd but am getting used to is that it takes a while for changes in the code, say in the sidebar, to show up on the home page, and sometimes on the other pages. That makes editing the layout a bit tedious. I assume it's a cache thing but changes used to kick in instantly on BlogHarbor, as I recall.

We install, and really would be upset if you deactivated, the WP-Cache plugin. This plugin dramatically speeds up your site and takes tremendous stress off the servers by allowing cached versions of your pages to be served rather than compiling each page every time it is requested. This plugin is your best friend, it's what allows you to rest easy knowing that if your site suddenly received a large volume of traffic, your site would be able to keep up with the demand.

Unfortunately, WP-Cache is not very smart when it comes to template changes or sidebar updates, and sometimes doesn't notice that you made an upate to your Presentation (don't worry, it works very well when you add new or edit existing posts).

So after you make some changes to your template, just go to your control panel and go to Options > WP-Cache. Scroll down and look for the Delete Cache button. Click it. Now your blog will be sure to output the most recent version of your template.

For the second time in a few days I can't access my site via http://FTP. Nothing comes up. Had this problem when the site was first launched but then it was ok.

So I went to Support to submit a ticket but my login and password did not work, on three or so tries.

I'm trying to work via the Plesk control panel, but can't see there how I can change the permissions on a file.

On another blog outside Pressharbor, where the admin url is http://www.blogname.com/wp-admin I've installed without a problem a dropdown category plugin see http://zeligplanet.altervista.org/2006/01/wordpress-plugin-zelig-dropdown-cats/

When I go through the same process with Thinking Home Business,
and insert in the sidebar the code <?php zelig_dropdown_cats(); ?>

I get a Database Error, which leads with [wordpress_thinkinghomebusiness_com.wp_categories' doesn't exist]

I'm guessing the problem is because of the admin url structure of http://www.thinkinghomebusiness.com/wordpress/wp-admin

but don't know how to remedy the problem.

hi -

am having problems uploading images to any post I write in wordpress. The insert/edit image button in the text editor seems to need a specific url . There doesn't seem a facility to browse and upload images from disk - looking at some of the wordpress support forums seesm to suggest there should be an upload facility , near the save and publish buttons , but there isn't on mine !
Any thoughts ? - thanks

I'd like to clarify how the "Recent Spam Harvest" screen works. There are several posts in grey, with large negative karma, and many in green, with slightly negative (e.g. -2.5) values - those are often waiting for moderation. Is Spam Karma self-learning? Does it make sense to manually mark those as spam?
I have not found a way, there are options to run the filters again, also to revert selection..etc, but not a way to tell the system that all selected items are indeed spam.

Thanks.
